AN OBSERVATION ABOUT DOLLHOUSE OBSERVATIONS - UPDATED

Everyone complains about the premise of having Echo being someone different every episode and that when she's between engagements, her tabula rasa self is, well, stupid.
OK, I'm I the only one watching or am I just reading in something, but it seems bloody obvious to me that it's not going to stay that way. I see it coming to pass that her original personality (or maybe a newly formed one) will be present within each imprint and will be her default position (though she'll have to hide it). It seems to be (part of) Alpha's plan for whatever he has planned.
It almost seems as though some critics (professional and otherwise) are being willfully ignorant just so they can rag on the show.
C'mon. Whedon knows as well as you or I that you can't sustain a main character who has no character. My only concern is that by the time it comes to pass, the cancellation notice will have been handed down.
UPDATE: After watching "True Believer" I think it's become even more obvious that Echo will have a continuous character of her own. Once the fire was set, it seemed apparent to me that Echo's own personality and survival instincts (and "potty mouth") were overriding the Esther Carpenter imprint.
Next episode is supposedly the beginning of Whedon's doing what he wanted and not what the network wanted.

Haven't seen the show but love the concept. Maybe just like when you delete something from your hard drive, the image is still there if you know how to look. Maybe a part of each personality gets left behind and affects her. That would make her Cybil-like interesting...and possbily unpredictable.
cheers
David.
I agree that this is obvious. But it isn't making the show any more enjoyable. Whedon's great. But watching this show shouldn't be a chore. I'm sticking around to see if the Episode six thing isn't schmuck bait. But I shouldn't be enjoying certain shows (which shall remain nameless) more than Dollhouse.
I hear ya, but I also remember that the first season of Buffy was...not awesome.
First season of Angel was also bumpy.
Firefly's first season being so good was an aberration (though I remember a lot of complainyness at the time).
But then, as we all now know, Firefly went south around the third/fourth season.
I can only hope "what Whedon wanted" is better than the boring buckets of suck that we've been served so far. My fingers are crossed... I just hope that the network doesn't lose patience and cancel it before it goes anywhere.
Yeah, I can't understand people who are so turned off by the concept of the Dollhouse as being so exploitative when it's glaringly obvious that she's not going to be doing this for long. Each episode has had some little nuggets in it that were very enjoyable - Victor's reveal, for example - and each ep improves upon the previous one.
I had a thought about Caroline. Maybe whatsherface who runs the Dollhouse (or doesn't, according to that phone call she got last ep) is related to her in some way - mother or mother figure.
